Since the beginning of the pandemic, Theater in Quarantine (TiQ) has developed and livestreamed dozens of visually distinctive performances from an eight-square-foot closet in the East Village. This program of digital short form experiments now extends into a flexible live format, bringing a mobile version of the closet into theaters, galleries, and performance spaces.
First developed with Katie Rose McLaughlin for its premiere at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, this evolving program offers a behind-the-scenes view of how TiQ makes digital magic. A single performer constructs each piece live, as the action is captured, relayed, and composited in real time and presented simultaneously on screen.
Each presentation is bespoke to the venue, drawing from TiQ’s growing repertoire of short works — including theater, dance, and experiments in liveness — and can be configured for in-person audiences, remote viewers, or both.
